Swell-week paradox: Ripple's plumbing booms while XRP trades flat near $1.30

Ripple's Swell 2026 (New York, October 27–29, ~1,500 attendees, merged with the XRP Ledger Apex summit and UBRI Connect) arrived with a run of institutional announcements — and XRP barely moved, trading near $1.30–1.34 through the week. The gap is the story: Ripple's business growth and buying demand for the token are different things.
The plumbing: spot XRP ETFs built roughly $1.7–1.8 billion in cumulative inflows, including 13 straight weeks of inflows before a $1.84 million net outflow in the week ended October 16 ended the streak; spot funds hold about $1.47 billion. RLUSD has passed $2.5 billion in market cap with over $1 billion on the XRP Ledger, tokenized assets on the ledger have passed $5 billion, and Ripple announced four RLUSD deals in one week (Cross River Bank, Standard Chartered, Privy, DriveWealth). On October 27 Ripple and Robinhood announced RLUSD as a core settlement and treasury asset across Robinhood's retail and institutional businesses, live on Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp by Robinhood, with the Robinhood app to follow before year-end. In Europe, Ripple secured a full Luxembourg CASP licence on August 6, 2026, authorizing custody, exchange, and transfer services across the EEA.
The token: XRP is down roughly 16% from its October high of $1.56 and about 64% below its July 18, 2025 all-time high of $3.66, with a market cap near $83 billion (rank 5). On-chain pressure is visible: wallets holding at least 10 million XRP control about 68.5% of supply (the highest since November 2022), 6.05 billion XRP moved to exchanges over 30 days (a seven-month high), and the 1 billion XRP unlocked from escrow on October 1 sat untouched for 26 days.
Why flat: most Swell deals are payment infrastructure, custody, and tokenization services that do not require institutions to buy XRP on the open market — and RLUSD deals in particular do not require XRP purchases. That is also why ETF inflows and a weak spot price can coexist.
Limits: market figures are secondary reports as of late October 2026 and move fast; this is a factual summary, not investment advice.
